New York, NY, October 15, 2013 — Maxwell Davidson Gallery is proud to announce a retrospective exhibition of work by Pedro S. de Movellán. This is de Movellán’s tenth solo exhibition with Maxwell Davidson Gallery, and the first retrospective of his career.

For nearly 25 years, Pedro S. de Movellán has been one of the world’s greatest kinetic sculptors. Coinciding with the release of Pedro S. de Movellán: Complete Works 1990-2012, written by Maxwell Davidson IV and Charles C. Davidson, and published by Schiffer Publishing, this exhibition will cover the wide array of mechanisms of movement and aesthetic styles that de Movellán has created and employed throughout his already successful career.

Having shown for years at international art fairs and exhibitions alongside sculptors such as Alexander Calder and George Rickey, de Movellán is the artist most able to take up the mantle of those late masters. This retrospective – along with the publication – will provide a full look at one of the finest kinetic sculptors alive today.

Included in the retrospective are early, larger scale wood sculptures, and works comprised of gold leafing, carbon fiber, aluminum, water, lasers, and clockwork mechanisms. The show examines the breadth of de Movellán’s talent and creative vision, and his abilities both technical and artistic.

De Movellán also opens a one-man show at John Berggruen Gallery in San Francisco. Opening November 21st, this exhibition is the artist’s first solo show in San Francisco, and his first at Berggruen. In conjunction with Maxwell Davidson Gallery, it will feature new work by de Movellán, and will be on view until 2014.
