Sophie Bouvier Ausländer has studied at the Ecole cantonale d’art de Lausanne, Switzerland, the Ecole nationale supérieure d’arts visuels de la Cambre, Belgium, University of Arts, London, and the Slade School of Fine Art, London. She lives and works in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Artist Statement:
"Making a work is about finding my appropriate distance to the world.
Sometimes I am a painter, watching the world from afar, mesmerised by its spectacle. At other times, I am a sculptor touching the world from within, teeming with life and folds.
Each time, I am a relief maker. Painting and sculpting are but two ways of exploring the boundaries of the rich space of relief."
